Maya Lin, a Yale graduate, won the honor of designing the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C.

Yale historian Judith Schiff credits the Yale War Memorial with inspiring Lin’s design for the memorial in Washington D.C. This monument, one of the largest war memorials in the United States, inside of Memorial Hall and adjacent to Woolsey Hall, houses large tablets inscribed with the names of all Yale students that passed in the war.

The main hall features more modern wars, and the adjacent hall features wars as far back as the Spanish-American War.

The memorial was created by Henry Hering, the creator of the World War plaza and memorial at the American Legion’s headquarters in Indianapolis.

To visit the memorial, you can go to Memorial (Woolsey) Hall Rotunda at Yale University at the Intersection of Grove and College Streets in New Haven, CT.
