FARMINGTON – Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is set to make a major announcement regarding school security at the Connecticut School Construction Coalition’s “School Facility Security Products and Services Day” in Farmington.

The event will pair school officials with companies that offer services or produce products specific to the security of schools. The event begins at 8 a.m. and Malloy is scheduled to speak at noon.

Since the Sandy Hook School shooting on Dec. 14, lawmakers have been studying the issue of school security and the legislature has made money available for schools that are seeking security upgrades.

Towns have taken different approaches to upping security in the past year. In Farmington, unarmed security monitors were added to each school as well as school resource officers. In Enfield, each of the town’s 14 public and parochial schools now have an armed guard at the door. Glastonbury schools added seven guards.
