Snow Could Make For Messy Commute

ctradarFluffy snow fell in parts of the state early Tuesday, making for a scenic — if not premature — introduction to winter.

Snow began falling in the northwestern part of the state before dawn Tuesday. By 6:30 a.m., it was snowing in other parts of the state as well, from Waterbury to Glastonbury. Up to an inch had fallen in higher elevations by 6 a.m., said FOX CT Meteorologist Sam Sampieri.

No major crashes were reported by 6:45 a.m., although Metro North’s New Haven line reported delays of up to 10 minutes because of slippery rails.

Accumulations are expected range from a coating to an inch, and the sun will come out this afternoon, said Sampieri and FOX CT Meteorologist Joe Furey.

Temperatures plunged in the pre-dawn hours. In Tolland, the temperature was 45 degrees before 4 a.m. A little more than an hour later, at 5:12 a.m., the temperature had dropped to 39.

Cold temperatures will return Tuesday night, and “if you get to 40 [degrees] tomorrow, you’ll be lucky,” Furey said.

Temperatures are expected to rise later in the week, he said.
