GLASTONBURY — A Norwich man told state police that the gas pedal on his 1999 Mitsubishi Diamante got stuck and that his brakes wouldn’t work, causing him to strike a Chevy van, plow through a construction zone along eastbound Route 2 at about 60 mph, then slam into a state police car parked in the construction area just east of exit 10 Monday afternoon.

The crash was reported at 2:53 p.m.

The collision with the police car propelled both vehicles from the right lane, which was closed for construction, into the center median. The trooper, Benjamin Kores, 37, was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment of neck and back pain.

The van driver, James Henderson, 43, of Marlborough, the Mitsubishi driver, Manuel Lopes, 32, and his passenger, Anne Pires, 25, of Norwich, were not injured. Lopes was cited for failing to maintain his established lane.
