Four women who filed a Title IX complaint and a lawsuit against the University of Connecticut alleging the university did not adequately protect them against sexual assault and treated them with deliberate indifference are scheduled to testify Wednesday afternoon at a legislative hearing.

Sen. Beth Bye, D-West Hartford, who co-chairs the legislature’s higher education committee, said the women will read statements but won’t answer questions from legislators.

“My chief concern is that we are sensitive to the victims and they feel they are being heard and that they can make a difference for other young women,” said Bye. “I have a lot of respect for them.”
