The suspect in the October 26 murder at New Haven’s Key Club appeared before a judge Wednesday afternoon, one day after his arrest.

Adrian Bennett was apprehended in Hartford following an extensive search. Sgt. Al Vazquez said the manhunt included “staking out many different locations for this particular individual.”

Officers say they obtained a surveillance video that shows Bennett murdered Erika Robinson and shot five other people inside the club.

Sgt. Al Vazquez has viewed the video. “It’s very disturbing seeing an individual pick up a gun and just blatantly shooting into a crowd of people.”

“There was no gun recovered, no fingerprints,” Tara Knight, Bennett’s attorney, told reporters outside the courthouse. “Now there’s a video, and I’m not saying that’s not substantial, I just haven’t had a chance to look at it. Excising the video from the mix it doesn’t seem like a strong case.”

Shafiq Abdussabur was one of Robinson’s cousins. He applauded the arrest of Bennett.

“We find comfort and relief that the person responsible for her tragic death has been arrested,” he said.

Bond for Bennett’s case remains at $3 million. His next court date is December 3.
