TOLLAND — One person was killed in a car accident on I-84 West by Exit 69 on Tuesday morning, state police said.
Westbound lanes in the area will remain closed with state police investigate the circumstances of the crash, said state police spokeswoman Sgt. Donna Tadiello,
“It should be shut down for some time,” she said.
Traffic is being routed off Exit 68 onto Route 74 in Vernon, she said. Vernon police are assisting with the detour.
The crash was reported at 7:04 a.m. and involved at least one vehicle, she said.
“It looks like a one-car crash, but we’re examining whether or not another vehicle was involved,” she said.
Cindy Stewart said she drove past the accident scene while heading to work at the University of Connecticut on I-84 East.
She saw fire trucks, ambulances and police cars. Traffic was being directed off the highway and was moving very slowly.
“As far as I could see it was completely backed up and just about stopped as people were very slowly getting off the exit,” she said.
