An employee of the Norwich Bulletin paper discovered a letter stuck between the two doors at the main entrance of the papers at approximately 7 o’clock this morning.

After the publisher, Chris Voccio, read the hand written letter, which gave no indication who it was from, he determined it was best to turn it over to the Norwich Police Department.

Mr. Voccio presented the letter to a police officer, while explaining that the letter stated the writer has MRSA, which is an infection that can’t be treated by antibiotics. The letter also said the writer had planned on spreading the infection to everyone. It was also noted that, when the letter was discovered, it  was covered in an unknown liquid substance.

After this information was divulged , the officer, the newspaper’s publisher and a civilian employee were then quarantined in the lobby of the police department. The newspaper building was also locked down for several hours.

Several agencies responded to assist in the hazmat investigation including the state of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services, the FBI and the United Postal Service Inspector.

The police department and affected employees were decontaminated and the letter was removed and sent for further testing.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Norwich Police Department at 860-886-5561.
