The 77th running of the Manchester Road Race promises to be an even more secure Thanksgiving tradition.
Without going into specifics, the organizing committee said runners and spectators will see a large police presence, but there will be a lot of things people won’t see…behind the scenes.
15,000 registered runners will run the 4.7 mile course and an estimated 40,000 will watch in person.
Organizers are asking everyone who will be there to keep their possessions close.
“No unattended backpacks,” Tris Carta, Road Race Committee President, said. “Everybody had their favorite spot to put their backpack, underneath the Christmas tree, over by the oak tree, in front of St. James lawn, we all had our special spots, we don’t want that anymore.”
This year, the hundreds of volunteers will be wearing caps honoring all those affected by Newtown and the deadly Boston Marathon bombings…Sandy Hook is embroidered on one side of the cap and Boston Strong is on the other side.
