States have the option to allow people to extend their canceled heath plans for another year, but Connecticut says no thanks.

Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Connecticut won’t execute that option President Obama offered as a fix to the Affordable Care Act.

The governor said it wouldn’t work for Connecticut, claiming the state’s insurers have made it clear, even if they had the option, they would not renew any policy which hasn’t already been offered for renewal.

Malloy also claimed that changing things up at this point could be disastrous by destabilizing prices, which could wind up costing Connecticut customers a lot more later.

To help people with the filing process, the governor has asked the state’s health insurance exchange, “Access Health Connecticut,” to extend the deadline for new sign-ups by one week to December 23rd.
