77th race winner

MANCHESTER — Sam Chelanga of Kenya won his first Manchester Road Race Thursday morning in an unofficial time of 21 minutes, 31 seconds. Last year’s winner and course record holder Aaron Braun was second in 21:39, unofficially, and Tyler Pennel was third.

Glastonbury native and Olympic steeplechaser Donn Cabral was fourth and 2009 winner and last year’s runner-up Haron Lagat of Kenya was fifth.

There were 15,000 entries in the 4.748-mile race on a windy, chilly day.

Chelanga was a nine-time All-American at Liberty University and was the 2009 NCAA cross country champion.
