Once again it’s a holiday house party in Hartford.

The halls are decked with yuletide finery and four new Christmas trees stand tall with tinsel on Friday as the Governor’s residence opened up to the public for holiday tours.

This Christmas marks the 23rd year in a row the state has held the open house at the Prospect Avenue home.

A team of about 3 dozen volunteers spent weeks giving the house a merry makeover for the holidays.

“We’re going to be here on Saturday, we’ll be here on Sunday.  We’d love to see as many people as possible,” Governor Dannel P. Malloy said as he greeted a long line of guests in the foyer of the residence.

“We are expecting between 3,000 and 5,000 thousand people to come through this weekend.”  Carol O’Shea, the executive director of the Governor’s residence said.

The holiday tradition runs Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free but they ask, if you can, to bring a new, unwrapped toy that will be donated to Toys For Tots.
