SOUTH WINDSOR — Police arrested a Foster Road man Monday after they say he became belligerant with them for blocking a shared driveway as they answered a medical call at his neighbor’s home.

When the ambulance carrying Richard Cote’s neighbor tried to leave, police said Cote placed his car behind the ambulance, put it into park and began reading the newspaper. He refused the requests of police officers to move his car, said Lt. Scott Custer, a police spokesman.

When police opened Cote’s car door, be put the car into reverse and began to back up, forcing an officer to jump clear of the car, Custer said.

Cote yelled and swore and police and EMTs, threatened to have police cars and the ambulance towed.

Police took Cote, 67, into custody on charges of interfering with an officer and disobeying the signal of an officer. He was released without having to post bail and is due in court Jan. 9, in Manchester.
