After twenty years, there is a new mayor in New Haven. Toni Harp was sworn into the office Wednesday afternoon. Harp will serve as the city’s 50th mayor. She is the second African-American and the first woman to lead the city.
“I am so grateful for the enthusiastic involvement of so many residents and welcome their continuing engagement,” Harp told a room full of supporters.
Mayor Harp’s inauguration was held at the Hill Regional Career High School, a building designed by her late husband, former real estate developer Wendell Harp.
Toni Harp took the oath of office surrounded by her three children.
