PLAINFIELD — A man was shot after attempting to drive his vehicle at a state trooper following a car chase Saturday night, police said.

Corey Keith, 44, of Waterford, suffered a nonfatal gunshot wound, police said.

Police said that a trooper spotted Keith driving erratically on Route 12 in Plainfield. The trooper pursued Keith after he failed to stop.

The trooper was joined by other state police as the chase passed exit 83 on I-395, police said. Keith was stopped on I-395 and began to ram police vehicles, police said.

Police said the troopers got out of their vehicles and ordered Keith to get out of his. He continued to ram the police cars, police said.

Police said one of the troopers fired a shot at Keith as he was driving his vehicle towards another trooper after being told to stop.

Keith was taken to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich and later released to police custody, police said.

The trooper was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police said that Keith as wearing an ankle bracelet because he was on parole. He was turned over to the Department of Corrections.

State police and the state’s attorney’s office are investigating.
