ENFIELD — A fire in the back of the Target store at the Enfield Square Mall has caused the evacation of the store and mall.

The fire was reported about 7 p.m. in the store’s seasonal section, said police Lt. William Zaczynski. Heavy smoke was reported.

Firefighters reported having most of the fire extinguished by 7:30 p.m.

Zaczynski said police were diverting people away from the mall area. Enfield detectives were at the store investigating. Although the fire’s cause remains unknown, detectives were documenting the scene and treating it as suspicious, he said.

Police were also working to obtain store security video recordings.
