New Britain Magnet School’s ‘Live Wax Museum’ A Success

A New Britain magnet school is attracting some attention for a school project on a super sized scale.

A sixth grade class has come up with the idea of a “live wax museum.” They researched historical figures and events and the entire assignment came to life at the Diloreto Magnet School this week. About two dozen students were involved in creating the charaters and the sets.

“What we’re doing is a live wax museum where the students had to do a research project on either a living or a non-living person or an event that changed American culture,” Alejandro Ortiz, principal of the Diloreto Magnet School said. “The students had to make their own props and be the experts in that particular area.”

All in all, there were nine different exhibits. The project came to an end Tuesday, and if you want to see a photo gallery, our own Mark Mirko from the Hartford Courant put one together. It’s at courant.com/eye contact.
