HARTFORD — A man accused of fatally shooting a Hartford man in 2011 was acquitted of murder and other charges Friday in Superior Court, sparking loud objections outside the courtroom from the victim’s family and friends.

Timothy Turman, 26, of Bloomfield was found not guilty of charges of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery. He was accused of killing Jarrell Warmington, 21, by shooting him in Hartford.

“His nickname was ‘Murder,’ “ said Warmington’s mother, Sabrina Warmington, of Turman outside the courthouse. Her son’s nickname was “Tweet,” she said.

“Where’s the justice?”

Wethersfield police officers, some in uniform, were among the Warmington family’s supporters — although not the vociferous ones. Jarrell’s father is a police sergeant in Wethersfield.

The trial started Monday. There was no testimony Tuesday or Wednesday because of a juror illness and a snowstorm, but it finished up Thursday with closing arguments and jury instructions.

After the verdict was announced Friday, one of Turman’s supporters began clapping. Judicial marshals had the two sides exit the courtroom separately, but some of Turman’s supporters and Warmington’s supporters became engaged in a shouting match outside the courtroom. A woman who was there for Turman pointed her cane at people who were there for Warmington.

Walter Hussey, who represented Turman, said in a phone interview that only one person was at the scene of the homicide, and “he was not a credible witness.”

Karon Boyd’s statements to police after the homicide were inconsistent, Hussey said, and he contradicted himself again on the witness stand.
