Depending on where you live along the water, building code requirements on the shoreline may be stricter, starting this spring.

The newly adopted state building codes were a recommendation by the two storm panel that was formed in the wake Hurricane Sandy and Superstorm Sandy.

Now, home requirements for wind related resistance varies based on where you live in the state.

Some homes on the shoreline are now required to maintain their integrity, even when the wind is whipping at 110 mph. Also, increased requirements will ensure homes are laterally solid, meaning more metal bracing in the corners of buildings.

New construction will have what is called a stronger load path connection, that is from the foundation on up through the roof in one continuous path.

Pending some final steps and submission to the secretary of the state, the effective date of the amendment to the building code will be Feb. 28, 2014.
