State police are cracking down on drivers who ignore Connecticut’s new “ice missile” law, which requires cleaning snow and ice off their cars or trucks before hitting the road.

Troopers have issued at least 230 tickets at $120 each, collecting $27,600 since Jan. 1.

Drivers like Tom Chang of West Hartford say they’re all for the aggressive new enforcement, especially when it comes to big-rigs,

“Usually the larger trucks that would really have the issue.  When large chunks of ice fall off that’s really when I get a  little bit nervous on the road,” Chang said.

The fine can grow to as much as $1, 250 if snow or ice blows off and hits another vehicle, causing damages or injuries.
