Governor Dannel Malloy wants homeowners, businesses, cities and towns to clean off their roofs before more damage is done.

There’s concern more buildings could end up like a warehouse in West Haven that recently had a roof collapse.

The entire building was brought down yesterday. West haven fire officials said what was left standing after the roof caved was too unstable. They were concerned the rest of the building would fall into Water Street.

This warehouse was used for storage, but its roof buckled and collapsed Wednesday evening under the weight of wet, heavy snow.

And it’s just one example of several roof collapses recently in Connecticut. This one happened yesterday in Meriden on Mount Pleasant Street. There, a garage collapsed onto a car and a minivan. Fortunately, no one was hurt in either of these instances.

Governor Malloy wants folks to act before something even more serious happens. He’s directed all state agencies and municipalities to asses and clear the snow build-up on public buildings. The governor is also asking residents to do the same.

And if you can, help your neighbor if they aren’t capable of clearing their roof.
