Bristol Hospital offered both comic relief and a chance to take on a serious subject.
The topic was obesity and weight loss surgery, and taking the mic for the cause was a familiar face, comedian Lisa Lampanelli. Lampanelli, known for her vulgar on-stage persona, is from Trumbull and had gastric bypass surgery last year. Since then, she has lost 107 pounds.
Lampanelli is supporting a new partnership between Bristol Hospital and the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America. Among the foundation’s main goals is to raise funds for patients who cannot afford costly and life changing weight loss surgery.
“Weight loss surgery saves lives,” Lampanelli said. “It’s not a joke, it’s not cheating, it’s not easy and it’s not cheap, so the people who can’t afford it, we’re going to help afford it.”
