For the past few months Connecticut power companies have come under fire for their tree cutting proposals and homeowners in several towns are upset.

Today elected leaders, concerned citizens and representatives from the power companies will have a discussion about this in Hamden. The agency that has oversight of this issue is called PURA – the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority. Tonight they are holding an informational session at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Hamden Middle School.

The reason this is so controversial and residents are frustrated is because United Illuminating is calling for branch and tree clearing of anything that is within 8 feet of a power line. Homeowners are worried about the environmental toll this could take and are also worried about the cost. They want to know if the power companies cut down will they also remove the debris? State Reps. Michael D’Agostino and Brendan Sharkey, both Democrats from Hamden, will be attending the meeting.
