Bus loads of people from Connecticut will be making the trip to attend today’s rally. Three busloads of Ukrainian Americans left Stamford around 6 a.m. to head to Washington, D.C.

The group plans to protest at the White House and march from there to the Russian Embassy to demand Russia withdraw its troops from Crimea, a divided part of Ukraine that Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed to defend.

Many Ukrainian Americans, including those who gathered in Stamford, say they want a peaceful resolution to come from this but want their country and territory to keep its integrity.

“We want to ask the U.S. government to start a tug to start putting pressure on Putin and send him a clear message to back off from Ukraine and respect it as an independent and respect the democracy,” said Roman Scanislavskyy.

“We don’t care,” said Romana Czerepacha. “We just want peace.”
