The UConn women’s basketball team will try to win the American Athletic Conference title this weekend at Mohegan Sun Arena.
It’s the first time the casino has hosted a conference tournament. For years, Big East Conference officials were uncomfortable with the idea of gambling and college athletics under the same roof.
Now that UConn is in a new league, the AAC, leaders from Mohegan Sun and its WNBA team, the Connecticut Sun, have a shot at showing the NCAA why their court works. They’ve signed a one-year contract to host this year’s conference tournament.
UConn’s first game at Mohegan Sun is Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The championship game is Monday night.
