HARTFORD — Two men were shot, one fatally on Main Street Saturday afternoon, police said.

Deputy Chief Brian Foley said the other victim is expected to survive.

Patrol officers and Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and closed down the area. Main Street is closed to vehicles starting at Westland Street and closed to pedestrians at Kensington Street.

While the St. Patrick’s Day parade wrapped up downtown, neighbors gathered at the corner of Kensington and Main on the north side of the city, hugging and staring over the police tape that blocked the road.

One woman, who declined to give her name, said that she saw the ambulance rush from the scene, but she didn’t know what had happened. She said the mini mart inside the crime scene area is very popular in the neighborhood.

Officers were interviewing neighbors and bystanders, looking for any information about what they may have seen immediately following the shooting.

Police said the shooting was not related to the parade.

Foley said this is the city’s second homicide in 2014.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 860-757-4089 or the anonymous tip line at 860-722-8477.
