It didn’t survive the last legislative session, but there’s new life for a controversial measure legalizing doctor-assisted suicide in Connecticut.

The Public Health Committee held a public hearing on House Bill 5326.

The bill would allow terminally-ill patients, who are suffering, to cut their lives short with medicine.

Once again legislators are weighing that right versus letting nature take its course.

Several of Connecticut’s terminally ill shared testimony on both side of the issue.

“I still face a very nasty death in which my body is physically trapping me and will until I either choke to death or no longer breathe,” Sara Myers, a patient with ALS, said.

If passed Connecticut would become only the 4th state, along with Oregon, Washington and Vermont, with legalized doctor-assisted suicide.
