Charla Nash, the woman whose face and hands were ripped off by a chimpanzee in a brutal 2009 attack, asked a legislative committee Friday to let her sue the state for $150 million, telling lawmakers state officials knew “Travis the Chimp” was dangerous and failed to protect her from him.
Nash made her case before the General Assembly’s judiciary committee at a public hearing on whether her lawsuit should go forward. She is seeking $150 million in damages from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, claiming the agency failed in its regulatory duty to protect the public from dangerous animals.
