A live round of ammunition found on a school bus triggered lockdowns at two schools in northeastern Connecticut Wednesday while administrators and police tried to determine its origin, school officials said.

An adolescent who attends Pomfret Community School, 20 Pomfret St., was escorted from the school after a knife was discovered in the student’s locker, said Matt Bisceglia, superintendent of schools. The student was not arrested but may face disciplinary action from the school, he said.

Bisceglia would not confirm that the student was the one who left ammunition on the bus, although he said no one else was involved in the incident.

Teachers were able to carry on with instruction during the lockdown, said Bisceglia. Students in grades pre-kindergarten through 8 attend the school.

Staff members at Woodstock Academy also were able to teach during its “modified lockdown,” said Headmaster Chris Sandford. Woodstock Academy had five students who had been on the bus, which Sandford said was from M & J Bus Co.

Those students were interviewed and were not believed to have been involved with the ammunition, he said.

The modified lockdown in Woodstock lasted about 45 minutes, he said.
