GUILFORD — A local man turned himself in Wednesday on charges stemming from a weekend home invasion that seriously injured two people, police said.

Joseph Lachat, 36 of Quinnipiac Court was charged with two counts each of second-degree assault and criminal mischief, said Deputy Chief Jeff Hutchinson. Lachat also was charged with home invasion and first-degree burglary.

Lachat was in custody on $500,000 bail after his arrest Wednesday morning, Hutchinson said. He was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in New Haven later in the day.

The attack happened shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday at a home on Hart Landing, Hutchinson said. Two adults, a man and a woman, were injured. The man was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital and has since been released, he said; the woman was treated at the scene.

Police said the home invasion stemmed from a domestic matter at the home and that the victims were targeted.

There was never a threat to the general public, police said.
