SCOTLAND — A woman was rescued from a burning home on Brooklyn Turnpike late Tuesday, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the home around 11:30 p.m. and called in extra manpower from several towns to help fight the fire. A man was able to make it out of the home on his own but firefighters had to rescue his wife, fire officials said.
The woman, who was conscious and alert when she was rescued from the burning building, was taken to the hospital by Life Star helicopter for smoke inhalation and burns, fire officials said.
“When they first arrived, they could hear her screaming,” Kevin Ring Jr., assistant fire chief, said of firefighters. “She had minor burns all over her body.”
A firefighter suffered minor burns battling the fire and was treated and released from the hospital.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials said the house was severely damaged but appears to be structurally sound.
