There are so many connections to the tragedy in Boston just a year ago, both around the world, and here at home.

More than 36 thousand runners will hit the streets of Boston next week and New Britain’s top cop will be right there with them. He ran the race last year, in fact, he’s run the race 21 times, and Chief Jim Wardwell is getting ready for what he says will be the run of his life.

This year Wardwell is racing to honor those lost and injured in last years Boston Marathon.

“There’s no way I can miss this race,” Wardwell said. “The Boston Marathon has always been the most important race to me.”

Wardwell runs as a member of the Hartford Track Club. His first ever Boston Marathon was back in 1990 where he posted a time of 2:40. This year, the 51-year-old officer hopes to finish in about 3:15.
