According to H&R Block, 25 percent of taxpayers file in April, many of whom wait until today’s deadline. In an effort to accommodate last-minute filers, many post offices around the state will be open to 8 p.m. tonight. Here are some tips for getting your tax return mailed in time:
– Mail your return in a blue mailbox, but look at the pick-up time before you do.
– Write and print neatly for both the address and return address
– Use priority mail express to ensure your return arrives as quickly as possible
There is some flexibility on the due date but only if you are positive you will be owed money rather than having to pay.
Not all post offices are open to 8 p.m., so check usps.com for the locations with extended hours.
