Periods of rain will continue with most areas picking up on average 2.5” of rain. A cold front working through the state will cause temperatures to crash about 20 degrees within just a couple of hours! As the cold air filters in, rain will in and change over to sleet and snow.
Northwestern Connecticut will change over first around 10 PM tonight with the transition continuing SE through New London by 2 AM Wednesday. A coating to around an inch of snow and sleet is possible. Another concern is black ice with the combination of wet roads and subfreezing temperatures. You may want to plan on leaving yourself some extra time for the commute on Wednesday.
Wednesday morning may give you winter flashbacks. Keep that heavier jacket nearby through the afternoon. Even with abundant sunshine, highs will struggle through the 40s. Slow warming will get underway the rest of the week, peaking near 60 degrees by this weekend.
