NEW HAVEN — Investigators believe the same man is behind an attempted bank robbery at a People’s Bank on Monday and a robbery at Santander Bank on Tuesday, police said.

The suspect wore similar clothes in both robberies, had crooked teeth and used a note.

Police say the suspect entered the People’s Bank, located inside a Stop & Shop on Whalley Avenue, around 6:39 p.m. and passed a note to a teller. The note said he had a gun and demanded cash.

The teller did not give hand any cash to the suspect, who left with his note, police said.

A similar incident took place Tuesday around 9:20 a.m. at Santander Bank on Grand Avenue. A man robbed the bank using a similar note.

The teller handed the man cash. The man fled with the money and the note, police said.

Investigators found clothing worn by the suspect and strongly believe both incidents were perpetrated by the same person, police said.

The suspect is described as an older, black man with dark skin. He was 5-feet 7-inches with a medium build. He had crooked teeth and brown eyes. He wore a blue and orange baseball hat, a grey sweatshirt with a “New York” logo and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 203-946-6304. Callers can remain anonymous.
