BERLIN — A 60-year-old woman suspected in a fatal hit-and-run accident in December has been charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility.

Debra Bailey of Huckleberry Lane was released on a $50,000. She is scheduled to appear May 6 at Superior Court in New Britain.

The crash was reported at Dec. 21 near 485 High Road in the Kensington section of Berlin.

Police said Eber Perez, 36, of Myrtle Street in New Britain, was walking south in the right shoulder of High Road when he was struck from behind by a car.

He was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, where he died of his injuries, police said.

Bailey stopped at the scene of the crash, but left before police arrived, police said.

Police said they located evidence linking her to the crash and found her at her home a short time later. She was charged soon after the accident with drunken driving. Further investigation led to the new charges.
