According to the chief medical examiner, last year 257 people died from heroin-related overdoses in the state, which was up from 174 from the previous year. Not only that, but heroin-related deaths have become particularly prevalent throughout the northeast.

In an effort to curtail the growing problem, Rep. Elizabeth Esty is hosting a community conversation in Waterbury to lay out how the federal government can help. Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary and Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone will both be in attendance along with local law enforcement and public health professionals.

The discussion begins at 8:30 a.m. on the second floor of Waterbury City Hall.
