WATERBURY — A 42-inch water main ruptured early Thursday on Waterbury Road near the Waterbury town line, washing out a portion of the road and draining water levels in Waterbury.

The break was reported at 5 a.m., Thomaston police said.

All lanes of the road are closed between Frost Bridge Road and Greystone Road, police said.

The Waterbury Bureau of Water said the city’s water main was shut and is undergoing repairs. Waterbury customers normally supplied by this line are being supplied by water from a line that usually serves the western area of town.

Water levels in some of the city’s tanks were lower than normal as a result of this break, but have returned to more normal levels, the bureau said.

Customers are asked to limit water usage until the repairs are completed. Drivers should avoid using Thomaston Avenue near the Thomaston town line.
