DARIEN — A custodian at town hall was arrested Thursday on charges that he lied to police about a series of incidents at town hall this month.

Javonte Ramos, 20, reported on April 22 that he saw a man breaking into the building through a basement window. Ramos said the burglar saw him and fled. Ramos said he chased and caught the suspect, who then struck Ramos in the head and escaped, police said.

Police searched the area, but did not locate a suspect. Ramos complained of head pain and was taken to Stamford Hospital.

Ramos’ burglar story fell apart the next day during an interview with detectives at police headquarters and he admitted to making up the burglary, police said. Detectives then questioned Ramos about two other incidents he had reported to police this month.

He called police on April 9 and said he had found a note that said “Every 1 Will Die!!!” The note prompted an evacuation and a search of the building by police and explosive detection canines.

Police determined Ramos wrote the note.

On April 15, Ramos reported seeing a suspicious person outside of town hall around 10:30 p.m. Officers responded, but didn’t find anyone. This incident was also fabricated, police said.

Ramos turned himself in to police Thursday. He is charged with first-degree falsely reporting an incident, providing a false statement and two counts of second-degree falsely reporting an incident.

Ramos was released on a promise to appear May 5 at Superior Court in Stamford.
