Tonight was supposed to be the victim’s junior prom – a night of music, dancing and fun photos. Intead, Maren Sanchez is gone, tragically killed in her own school’s hallways. Students gathered at Walnut Beach in Milford to pay tribute to their fallen classmate.
Police say a fellow student knifed 16-year-old Sanchez in a hallway around 7:15 a.m. Her wounds were so bad she died less than a half hour later. Investigators say staff members detained the attack. He’s also 16 and is charged with murder as a juvenile.
House after, shaken-up parents picked up their children. Students returned to school grounds to paint a large rock in memory of Maren. There, some laid their flowers meant for prom – now a gesture to rest in peace.
At the beach, classmates huddled close as the day began to darken, sharing their favorite memories of a Jonathan Law junior so bright.
