Connecticut senators and other leaders will meet to discuss the $17.6 billion deal signed last week that would give Electric Boat from Groton and Huntington Ingalls from Virginia the opportunity to build 10 submarines.

The contract will fund work on two subs per her from 2014 through 2018. It will net a savings of more than $2 billion. Aside from its money saving benefits, the deal supports more than 11,000 jobs in Groton and Quonset Point, Rhode Island. It also strengthens the supply chain in the state that includes more than 350 state companies.

The Navy spent 20 months negotiating the contract and read admiral David Johnson says it reduces the maintenance visits from three to four which means each new sub can carry out a full 15 month deployment instead of 14.

The press conference will begin today at 10:30 a.m. Navy leaders will be in attendance as well.
