GROTON — A person on the Amtrak railroad tracks in Groton was struck and killed by an Acela Express train Monday morning, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.

“The train came into contact with a trespasser about 9 a.m.,” said Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods.

Amtrak police, Groton Town police and local firefighters and EMS were on the scene.

The person was hit near where the railroad intersects School Street in the portion of Mystic that is in Groton.

The train involved in the incident was Acela Express train No. 2190, which was headed from New York City to Boston with 207 passengers onboard. It was delayed as it awaited a new crew. The incident also delayed Amtrak trains 171, 190 and 2150.
