Lawmakers were able to pass a number of key bills this session including raising the minimum wage and, most recently, the ban of selling electronic cigarettes to minors. But there’s still plenty more to accomplish.

Often referred to as Erin’s Law, Senate bill 2013 is awaiting approval from the house. The measure would require schools to provide sexual abuse awareness programs. It would be developed by several state agencies and the curriculum would be age appropriate. Parents would also have the chance to opt their child out from the lesson.

There’s also the controversial knockout game. The nationwide fad encourages people to literally knockout unsuspecting strangers by punching them. Under new legislation, perpetrators would be slapped with a felony. The Senate voted late into the night on Tuesday and the House is now expected to vote.

A third bill that’s pending is known as the school ground pesticide ban. Several years ago the state enacted legislation banning the use of lawn care pesticides on kindergarten through eighth grade school ground property. The bill would expand the ban all the way through 12th grade on public and private school grounds.
