WATERBURY — Police are investigating the death of a 2-month-old child who was found unresponsive on Thursday.

The child’s mother called 911 Thursday after finding the baby boy named Eliczer unresponsive in their Bank Street home, police said.  The boy died shortly after arriving at Waterbury Hospital.

The death remains under investigation, police said Friday. The results of the autopsy came back inconclusive Friday, and will need further study by the medical examiner’s office, police said.

A vigil Friday night was held in front of the Bank Street home where Eliczer was found unresponsive.

“I’ve got so much anger in me and so much hurt and pain at the same time. I’m holding it in until I actually see my son, because I know I will break down when I will see him,” said  Eladio Delgado, the father of Eliczer.

Waterbury Police say detectives will take a closer look at the 24 hours leading up to the baby’s death, including determining if there was any substance abuse by his parents.

“I’m not picking sides.  I’m not saying she did or didn’t do it.  We all have to wait until the results come to see what happens,” said Samia Baker, a close friend of the baby’s mother and the father, Eladio Delgado.

Police are waiting for the results of the toxicology reports, which could take days or even weeks.

“All I can do right now is wait for the results,” Delgado said.

Delgado says the family is planning funeral arrangements, but nothing has been finalized.
