UNCASVILLE — Greenwich business executive Tom Foley won the Republican nomination for governor Saturday, setting the stage for a three-way primary in August against two fellowRepublicans.
Foley won by a wide margin, but two rivals — Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton and Senateminority leader John McKinney of Fairfield — qualified for an August primary.
The most dramatic moment came when McKinney barely qualified for the primary, eking past the minimum 15 percent threshold.
After the initial vote, McKinney had received only 13.28 percent of the vote, and he could be seen letting out a huge sigh on the convention floor as the last vote was announced. He then started moving quickly around the convention floor to urge delegates to switch their votes under the rules.
