FARMINGTON— A Connecticut doctor is accused of getting into a car crash while under the influence and then fleeing the scene.

Farmington Police say Dr. Nadeem Behjet, 59, was seen driving erratically down Rt. 6 in Farmington around 830 a.m. Monday after police received two calls about an erratic driver.

One witness told police the driver hit another car near Fienemann Road and then fled west on Route 6, according to Farmington Police.

Police stopped Behjet in his Subaru Outback near Swamp Scott Road and gave him a field sobriety test.

“He was clearly under the influence of something and the officers felt the erratic operation combined with his performance on the field test warranted his arrest,” said Farmington Police Lt. Colin Ryan.

Behjet is charged with illegally obtaining drugs, fleeing the scene of the crash and DUI and several other traffic violations.

Behjet was not home when Fox Connecticut stopped by his Farmington home.  His mother said the prescription drugs were Xanax pills that belonged to her.

Behjet is listed online as a family doctor with Pro-Health Physicians in Bristol.

He was released on $1,000 bond and is due back in court on May 27.
