Plenty of parades, ceremonies and other events are planned around the region for the Memorial Day weekend.

 

AVON

The Memorial Day parade will start at 11 a.m. on Monday at Sperry Park on Simsbury Road. Marchers will proceed south on Simsbury Road, stopping at the Avon Center Cemetery behind the Avon Congregational Church for a brief ceremony. The parade will then resume and turn right onto West Main Street, then onto Ensign Drive before ending at a parking lot behind the Marriott Hotel. Following the parade, there will be a ceremony on the town green, which is at the intersection of Ensign Drive and West Main Street. Town officials are working with the Gildo Consolini Post 3272 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to put on the event.

BERLIN

The Memorial Day parade has been canceled due to rain.

 

BLOOMFIELD

Memorial Day observances will be held Monday beginning at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery. Parade assembly will begin at 11 a.m., with step-off at the corner of Barnard Lane and Bloomfield Avenue at 11:30 a.m. The parade will continue north up Bloomfield Avenue to Tunxis Avenue, east on Wintonbury Avenue, south on Jerome Avenue, south on Seneca Road and west on Park Avenue to the town green. The post-parade ceremony will be held on the green beginning at noon.

 

BRISTOL

The downtown parade on Monday begins at 9 a.m. near West Street. Later in the morning, another parade is set for 11:30 in the center of the Forestville section starting near the Nuchie’s catering hall.

 

CANTON

The town’s Memorial Day parade will start at 10 a.m. Monday at Canton Intermediate School on Dyer Avenue. Marchers will head south on Dyer Avenue, turn right onto Maple Avenue and then go left onto Main Street. From there, the parade will turn right onto Center Street and then into Village Cemetery in Collinsville, where a Memorial Day service will be held.

 

CROMWELL

The town and the American Legion Carlson-Sjovall Post will host the annual Memorial Day parade and service May 30, at 6 p.m., in the downtown.

 

EAST HAMPTON

The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday. It steps off at 9 a.m. in front of the high school, 15 North Maple St., and proceeds along Hills Avenue to Route 66 before heading to the Village Center. Leading the parade this year will be police department’s new Humvee, recently acquired at auction and repurposed for police use.

 

EAST HARTFORD

The Memorial Day parade will be held Monday, stepping off at 10:30 a.m. from East Hartford Middle School, 777 Burnside Ave., and heading west on Burnside Avenue and South on Hillside Street to Hillside Cemetery. The parade will be held rain or shine unless extreme inclement weather forces cancellation. In the event the parade has to be canceled, the Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the East Hartford Town Hall, in the council chambers, at noon.

 

ENFIELD

The Memorial Day parade is Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at the Felician Sisters, 1315 Enfield St., and will continue north on Route 5, Enfield Street, to Town Hall, 820 Enfield St.

 

FARMINGTON

The Unionville parade will form at 8 a.m. Monday and begin at 8:30 a.m. Later that same morning, the Farmington parade will form at 10 a.m. and begin at 10:30 a.m.

 

GLASTONBURY

The annual Memorial Day parade and observance will be held on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. The parade starts at Main Street and Welles Street and proceeds south on Main Street to the Hubbard Green. A veterans service will start immediately following the parade.

 

MANCHESTER

The parade is set for Monday 9:30 a.m., stepping off from the Army & Navy Club, 1090 Main St., heading north on Main Street, east on East Center Street to Munro Park, then returning to Center Street and onto Myrtle Street and into Center Memorial Park. A program is to be conducted in the park. In case of rain, the program will be held in the Full Gospel Interdenominational Church, 745 Main St.. at 11 a.m.

 

MIDDLETOWN

The Memorial Day parade begins at Main and Spring streets in the North End at 10:30 a.m. Monday and travels south along Main Street to the South Green at Union Park. The parade and a ceremony in the park immediately following the procession will be dedicated to disabled veterans this year.

 

NEWINGTON

The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Main Street and Robbins Avenue, winds its way through downtown and ends at town hall. After the parade, the committee will host a ceremony at the war memorial in front of town hall honoring the town’s war dead since World War I.

 

NEW BRITAIN

The Memorial Day parade is May 30, at 6 p.m., starting at Broad and Burritt streets and finishing at Central Park.

 

PLAINVILLE

The parade starts at 9 a.m. Monday at Whiting and Broad streets and ends at Maple and Whiting at the Veterans Memorial for a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

 

PORTLAND

The town’s American Legion Post will host the annual Memorial Day Parade on Sunday. The parade steps off a 2 p.m. near Victoria Road and proceeds west, pausing for a wreath-laying at the Civil War monument and later at the Veteran’s Memorial Garden behind Town Hall on East Main Street. The annual Memorial Day breakfast will take place Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 69 on Freestone Avenue.

 

ROCKY HILL

The annual Parade kicks off 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Rocky Hill High School parking lot, 50 Chapin Ave. The route ends at the Center Green Cemetery for the invocation and ceremonial laying of wreaths. The public is invited for refreshments later at the VFW Post 2138 on Main Street. In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and a ceremony held at the high school auditorium at 9:30 a.m. Event sponsors included the town of Rocky Hill, the Rocky Hill Chamber of Commerce and local veterans organizations.

 

SIMSBURY

The Tarriffville section of Simsbury will have its own parade on Monday, stepping off at 9 a.m. Those participating in the parade will gather at the foot of Winthrop Street at 8:30 a.m. The parade will end for memorial services at the Tarriffville Cemetery. The Simsbury parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Marchers will gather at the intersection of Owens, Brook Boulevard and Hopmeadow Street. The parade will proceed to the end of Wilcox Street, where there will be a memorial service in front of Eno Hall.

 

SOUTHINGTON

The annual parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The parade route starts on Eden Avenue, west to Liberty Street, right on to Liberty Street through the intersection at Columbus Avenue to the intersection at Center Street, then right onto Center Street, proceeding to the town green, again turning right onto Apple Way to Columbus Avenue., making the final right hand turn (east) on to Columbus Avenue where the parade ends. A ceremony honoring veterans will be held immediately following the parade in front of the American Legion home at 64 Main St.

 

SUFFIELD

The parade will form on Ffyler Place off Mountain Road (Route 168), and start promptly at 9 a.m. on Monday. The line of march will proceed up Mountain Road, then turn left onto North Main Street, then right into the entrance for the Suffield Village, right onto Bank Lane and right again into Veterans Park.

 

TOLLAND

The town will hold its largest community gathering — the 23rd Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service — on Sunday, at 1 p.m. The parade will line up in the parking lot next to the Preschool of the Arts on Route 74 at noon and will step off at 1 p.m. The parade will travel along Route 74 and past the historic Tolland Green, then turn right onto Old Post Road and end at Tolland Intermediate School. A memorial ceremony will follow in the field in front of the school.

 

WEST HARTFORD

The parade is Monday beginning at 10 a.m. on Farmington Avenue, at the intersection of Woodrow Street. The route head onto South Main Street, turns left onto Burr Street, and ends in the Town Hall parking lot. Immediately after the parade, a brief memorial service will be held at the West Hartford Veterans Memorial, located at the corner of Farmington Avenue and North Main Street. There is no rain date.

 

WETHERSFIELD

The parade is Saturday, stepping off at 9 a.m. from the state Department of Motor Vehicles office near Cove Park and wind its way through Old Wethersfield, ending at the historic Village Cemetery. At 10:30 a.m. after the parade, a ceremony in Village Cemetery will honor local veterans killed in all the nation’s wars.

 

WINDSOR

Memorial Day observances will be held May 26, beginning with a ceremony at Elm Grove Cemetery in Poquonock at 8.m., followed by a ceremony at Veteran’s Cemetery at 9 a.m. The parade will proceed via Poquonock Avenue to town hall for Parade Marshal Master Sgt. Dominique Corbett, U.S. Air Force Reserve. The parade usually arrives in the center of town between 9:45 and 10 a.m. The ceremony at town hall will include a special flag ceremony performed by members of Boy Scout Troop 149. In the event of rain there will be a single ceremony in town council chambers at town hall beginning at 10 a.m.
