Rookie Chiney Ogwumike scored a game-high 18 points and Allison Hightower had 14 to lead the Connecticut Sun past the Seattle Storm at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday night for their first win of the season.

The 0-3 Sun were trying to mark one in the win column against the visiting Storm, who came in 0-2.

The Storm started the game off with a milestone. Former UConn All-American Sue Bird set up Alysha Clark from behind the arc, and Clark hit a three-pointer to open the scoring on Bird’s 500th career assist.

After Seattle’s quick lead, the Sun settled down.

Alyssa Thomas with the quick outlet found Katie Douglas for the easy two as Connecticut led at the half, 33-27.

And at the half, there was a little something special: 65 young men and women took the armed service oath as part of Armed Service Appreciation Night.

After three quarters, the Sun led, 54-46

In the fourth quarter, Connecticut never looked back, winning, 71-59.
