LEDYARD — Three people were injured when a car struck a utility pole and crashed into a swimming pool in the Gales Ferry section of town early Sunday, police said.

The crash was reported just after 1 a.m. on Route 12 when a Acura driven by Marcus Harvin, 25, of New Britain, lost control, struck a telephone pole, traveled across Long Cove Road and landed on its roof in a swimming pool behind a home on Baldwin Hill Road, police said.

Harvin and two children were removed from the car and taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Police said one of the children suffered a fractured leg, one suffered a serious arm injury and Harvin may have suffered internal injuries.

State and Ledyard police are investigating the crash. The area of Route 12 and Long Cove Road is expected to be closed for several hours.
