NEW BRITAIN — The wake for Deputy Fire Chief David Fiori is set for the afternoon and evening of May 29.
Calling hours run from 3 to 7 p.m. to accommodate what city officials anticipate will be very large crowds of mourners.
Fiori, 59, was a 36-year veteran of the city’s fire service, and was known by many firefighters across the state and region. The New England Conference of Firefighters is holding its convention from Wednesday to Friday at Foxwoods Resort Casino, and a large contingent is likely to attend the wake, the funeral or both, city leaders said.
Residents and city leaders were stunned May 26 by news that Fiori, 59, had died after suffering a heart attack on duty the previous night.
His wake will be at the Farrell Funeral Home at 110 Franklin Square. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. March 30 at the St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road.
